Highbridge Disc Golf 2008

Since the 2009 disc golf trip is almost here I figured I had better post the pictures from the 2008 trip.

The exact details are a bit foggy since I am writing this almost a year since the trip. There are 158 photos that I had to whittle down from about 400. One thing I do remember was the constant LOUD house music that was being played at the 8 or 9 stages they setup for a big music festival. I like most of that kind of music but when I say constant I really mean 24/7 for three days. We could hear the music at our campsite which was about a mile away. ALL NIGHT LONG. Another bad thing about the music festival was that they closed down some of the courses that we wanted to play. We still had a great time though.

I also got a bit too much sun on Saturday. Late in the night I ended up giving up my fantastic steak dinner to the woods since my body didn?t want it anymore. Yeah a hat would have been a good idea for saturday.

Check out the pics here.

July 4th BBQ ‘09

The July 4th bbq ended up being a great time. Lots of family, friends and neighbors showed up to hang out. I had a little shadow that followed me around for over an hour. My inability to understand what he was saying half of the time didnt dissuade him from telling it to me anyway.

See the pictures here.

Throwing Disc @ Lunch

A few weeks back when the weather seemed like it had made up its mind to be summer, my friend Brian and I went to the soccer field over the lunch hour to throw some disc. Brian actually wanted to use his new digital SLR camera more so than hucking plastic which worked out well for me as I wanted to huck plastic more so than use Brian’s new camera.

Its a nice quiet field that shall remain nameless although some of you might recognize the surroundings.

Myre - Big Island Camping

This Memorial Day weekend my friend Mary and I decided to go camping. All the reservable sites were booked so we picked a few parks that still had a few first come first served sites available. Our first choice was all booked up by the time we left town so we headed down to Myre - Big Island State Park near Albert Lea. When we arrived the park staff directed us to one of the best sites in the park.

The weather for the weekend was great compared to what it was in the north. We had rain one night but only for a short while. It was cloudy, hot and muggy on Sunday but as we set out for a hike the clouds opened up to let the sun through. This state park has a good mix of land types. We were able to see bogs, forrest, and prairie on our hikes.

It was a great weekend for camping!

Accidental Art

After wiping the ink onto this page I thought I would find out what the other colors of ink looked like smeared around on the paper. I was hoping to get more of a “splash” affect but the drops of ink didnt really splash much at all. I then wiped the ink around the page with a paper towel.

Behold the results of my accidental art.

What’s in the bag?

My arsenal of golf discs has increased steadily over the last few years. I wanted to experiment and find out what I could do with a variety of discs. So far it is going well.

Currently in my bag as of 05/06/08.

Putters
Star Aviar PnA        - Standard Putter. This one gets the most use.
Star Rhyno - Great for windy conditions and trick shots.
DX Aviar PnA - Was my goto putter until it came out in star plastic.

Mid-Range
Star Gator - Still not too sure about this one. Very similar to the Cro. Still checking this one out.
Pro ROC KC 12X - Fantastic midrange disc.
Star Cro - Very similar to the Roc.

Drivers
Star Destroyer - This disc will fly like a rocket out of your hand. Love this disc.
DX Destroyer
Star Wraith - The wraith is one of my favorite distance drivers.
Star Wraith (Huck Lab) - Great design by Huck Lab.
Champion Wraith - A lighter disc for forearm throws and drives.
Star Valkyrie - A great all around driver and fairway driver.
Star Valkyrie (Huck Lab)
Star Tee Bird - reliable driver
Champion Tee Bird 11X - lighter weight t-bird great for sidearm drives.
Star TL - This disc will fly extremely straight with a tiny bit of fade. great fairway driver.
DX Cheetah KC 8X - A found disc that has performed well.
Star Roadrunner - used for backhand shots where i want lots of high speed turn. Rollers.
Star FL - similar to the TL with a bit more fade.
Star Max - becoming a new favorite disc for distance drives.
Champion Beast BS 2X - Found disc… have not incorporated it fully into my game.

Screwdriver Please

Depending on how this venture plays out I may just need the kind with vodka.

A few months back the hard drive in my PowerBook G4 decided to give up the bits. It died noisily with much kachunking.

My good friend Patrick Rhone donated a spare 60 GB hard drive to the save Servo effort. After much procrastination I acquired the tools necessary to complete the operation. A #00 Phillips screwdriver and a T6 Torx screwdriver. I found a great set of directions on ifixit.com.

The operation went smoothly, however there were some tense moments while prying off several of the keys. The “clicking“ sound the keys make when removing them is more like a snap. Luckily I didnt break anything. I would not recommend the Craftsman #00 driver as a quality tool. The driver does not come to a sharp enough point so it does not bite the grooves on the screw properly.

At the moment I am reinstalling the OS and it looks like the patient will pull through just fine.

What’s on this thing?

Well its been a while since I posted anything so here is a little thought that was running through my brain.

Cross posting to Notes on Facebook

My friends on Facebook may have noticed that suddenly there are lots of notes posted to my page there. There is a cool feature that lets you import an RSS feed to your notes on Facebook. The only thing I dont like about it is that any links from my original blog post do not transfer over.

So if you are reading my notes on Facebook, you may want to visit my main blog to view any links to pictures, websites and video clips.
